Memoirs from an African/Native geeky American with PTSD that everyone thought that was from Southeast Asia

The Muslim American Vol. 2: Rise of Trump

If you would have told people 5 years ago that the celebrity Donald J. Trump is going to be the next president, I think everyone would respond with “what kind of crack are you smoking”.  Which started out as an episode from The Simpsons back in 2000 has become true.  Donald Trump has won the 2016 election and will be the next President.  I’ll try to keep this as short as possible.  So many people are just in shock that he actually won.  A man with absolutely no political experience, someone who openly talks down to women, foreigners, minorities, Muslims and gay people is going to be the next leader of the free world.  Although the other candidate is not exactly ideal either you mean to tell me somewhere close to 300 million people in this country and these are the two we “have” to “choose” from? Most people I know who didn’t vote for Trump were voting for Hilary because she was the lesser of two evils.  The response of a lot of “Trump Supporters” were “I don’t care what kind of person he is; we want something new”.  One specific person said he speaks his mind, he’s enthusiastic and tells us what’s wrong with this country.  I love absolutely history and at this point I still don’t know which area I favor but when I think of everything that is going on I can’t help but think of late 1930’s Germany and 1940’s America.  Japanese Americans were put into prison camps because the US Government thought they could be a possible threat to us during World War 2.  Innocent regular folks put in to prisons just because they were born or had Japanese descent.  There was a photo I saw online that I posted on my Instagram account.  It goes Remember it didn’t start with gas chambers.  It started with politicians dividing the people with “us vs. them”.  It started with intolerance & Hate Speech and when people stopped caring, became desensitized mindlessly obedient and turned a blind eye.  That is exactly what happened to cause the Holocaust.  Millions of Jews killed in such horrific ways.  Burned, gassed, etc.  I really hope I’m just overreacting to all of this but Trump hasn’t even taken office yet and around the country there are already reports of Mexicans and other immigrants being attacked in public.  Muslim women having their hijab’s ripped off their head while being told go back home.  Homosexual couples being told “Trump will fix you”.  Although Donald has not said these things directly in his speeches, he is also not telling his supporters that what they are doing is wrong.  I don’t know who made this quote famous I’ll have to look it up later but it goes “Evil prevails when good men do nothing”.  That’s what happened in Nazi Germany and I hope that’s not what’s going to happen here.  Although it seems like there is a possibility that could happen again because of the silent majority.

I’ve lived in fear before because of the Boston Bombing and I’m starting to make some real progress.  I won’t go back to being scared all the time.  I won’t go back to living in darkness.  I’m not really too worried about myself.  Although I live in a Rural area (almost entirely all white people and have found KKK pamphlets on people’s cars at the local YMCA) everyone for the most part is polite (at least to my face).  I’m more worried about other people.  I worry for my mother who covers her hair when she leaves the house.  I am afraid for the masjid’s/mosques I go to that nothing happens.  One of them had received threats right after 9/11 but it was just people talking tough.  I am afraid for the minority children.  I’m honestly afraid for everyone.  I absolutely refuse to go through the same injustice that my parents and their parents and their parents went through.  I thought we were past all of that shit America.  I truly do pray and hope things will not turn out that way and we can all come together.  May God have mercy on all of us.

Here is also a link of Celebrity who tweeted their opinions.  Very interesting.
